Current Projects

Here is a picture from the projects I am working on right now. The Favorite Things Prairie Girl Dress to the left. In the middle the Modkid Kyoko Dress. I already cut out the pattern and one part of the fabric arrived today in the mail. Above that is the Amy Butler Liverpool Tunic with the fabric I chose for it. I still have to prepare the pattern on freezer paper. To the right is the Lisette Continental Dress and parts of the already cut fabric.

And this is what I got so far of the Lisette Continental Dress. I hope to finish it today and maybe wear it tonight when we go out for dinner at the Bistro to listen to our farrier Doug and my piano teacher Mariam play there.

What I am sewing with

I got my first sewing machine August 25th 2011. A Brother CS600i. I started with sewing bags, placemats, purses etc.

I liked this machine a lot, but after five months of intense use the stitches started to be a little whacky. I brought it to the local sewing machine service, which is also a Bernina dealer. Turns out I was using the wrong bobbins, which was not the issue, but still not great. And they where right "You get what you pay for"
And since I am totally hooked to garment sewing and would like to have good quality sewing my own wardrobe I allowed them to talk me in buying a used Bernina 140 Patchwork Edition. It's truly an awesome machine!

After sewing some skirts and dresses I thought to myself how nice it would be to have a serger. Two weeks ago I found one on Craigslist for a really good price and went for it.

And this is how my sewing area looks like. It's small, but it works for me.

Favorite Things Pattern

The Favorite Things "Prairie Girl" Pattern arrived this week and I couldn't wait to start sewing the muslin.

I always copy the pattern on freezer paper, so I can use the pattern in different sizes. Usually I am not very good in making a muslin first, just because of the extra work. But this time I wanted to make sure everything fits well before I start cutting the good fabric. The final dress will be in Joel Dewberry Heirloom Voile Ornate Floral in Amethyst:

The dickie and slip will be white cotton lawn.

I made the muslin from Meadowlark Premium Muslin Natural it's a beautiful muslin fabric that looks like linen. Anyway, it turned out so nicely that I put a decorative stitch around the neckline and will add it to my wardrobe.

New Blog

So, I decided instead of starting a whole new blog I would just rename this one. From now on I will blog about my sewing adventures. I'll blog about past finished projects in between my current ones. And I'll start with my Poppy Dress.

I used Simplicity 2884:

Main Fabric: Karen Tusinski Gallery Fiori Large Poppies in Teal
Contrast Fabric: Karen Tusinski Gallery Fiori Tonel Poppie in Red

This picture is without finished hem. I didn't get around taking a picture with the finished hem. I also had to take in the top because it turned out a little too wide. I plan to wear a red petticoat underneath.
